U.S. President Barack Obama Awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

U.S. President Barack Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for what the Nobel Committee called “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples.”

Friday’s announcement came as a surprise to many as Obama edged out Chinese dissident and pro Democracy leader Hu Jia and Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, two favorites for the award. In explaining the Nobel Committee’s decision the committee head Thorbjoern Jagland stated, “It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve.”

According to the five-member committee Obama’s efforts have included supporting international bodies and promoting nuclear disarmament.

The committee declared in a statement, “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.” The statement continued,

“His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”

Obama becomes the third sitting U.S. President to win the Nobel Peace Prize, joining Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Jimmy Carter also won the award in 2002, more than two decades after he was out of office.

As Nobel Peace Prize laureate Obama will be presented a gold medal, a diploma and $1.4 million.

Lil Wayne Confirms Lauren London Pregnant With His Baby

Lil Wayne, the platinum-selling rapper, confirmed Tuesday that actress Lauren London is pregnant with his child, according to MTV.com.

The rapper confirmed the pregnancy during a radio interview in Los Angeles. “Lauren London, she fine,” Los Angeles Power 106 jock Fuzzy said to Wayne. “She [is] very pregnant with your baby.”

“Very pregnant, yes,” responded Wayne. Fuzzy then offered congratulations to the Cash Money star, and he gladly accepted.

Lil Wayne and London, who co-starred with T.I. in “ATL”, had been spotted together publicly over the past couple of months, but it was never confirmed if the two were dating or just friends.

This will be the third child for Lil Wayne. He has a daughter, Reginae, with former wife Antonia “Toya” Carter, who stars in BET’s “Tiny & Toya Show” with T.I.’s girlfriend Tiny.

Last year, Wayne announced the birth of his first son during the 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards. The mother of Dwayne Michael Carter III was not identified, but gossip blogs found pictures of the woman, who is a college student in Cincinnati.

This will be London’s first child. The actress’ credits include “ATL,” “Entourage” and “I Love You, Beth Cooper” with Hayden Panettiere. The due date and sex of the baby are unknown at this time.

Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian: I Considered Abortion

Kourtney Kardashian admits she struggled with the decision to keep her baby or have an abortion. The reality star, who learned she was pregnant in May, says she considered having an abortion but decided against it after realizing it wasn’t the right decision for her.

“I definitely thought about it long and hard, about if I wanted to keep the baby or not, and I wasn’t thinking about adoption,” she says. “I do think every woman should have the right to do what they want, but I don’t think it’s talked through enough. I can’t even tell you how many people just say, ‘Oh, get an abortion.’ Like it’s not a big deal.”

“I was just sitting there crying, thinking, ‘I can’t do that,’” the 30-year-old says of having an abortion. “And I felt in my body, this is meant to be. God does things for a reason, and I just felt like it was the right thing that was happening in my life.”

Kardashian, who stars with her sister Khloe Kardashian in the new reality show Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, says her boyfriend Scott Disick was very supportive through the process. He wanted me to talk about it more, but I just kept to myself. He said, ‘I really want you to keep it, but I will support you whatever you decide to do,’” she adds.

The baby is due around Christmas. Kardashian announced her pregnancy last week.

Michael Jackson Doctor to be Charged with Manslaughter

Michael Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, is to be charged with manslaughter in the death of the King of Pop, Fox News reports. Murray reportedly could be arrested as soon as next Wednesday.

According to Fox, Los Angeles police plan to execute a search warrant at a pharmacy before an arrest warrant is issued for Murray as they want to gather more evidence.

Murray has been at the center of the manslaughter investigation. He admitted to administering the sedative propofol, also known as diprivan, to Jackson in the hours before his death on June 25.

Jackson’s longtime dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, will also reportedly be charged with medical malpractice.

Meanwhile, Jackson’s family announced the singer will be buried at LA’s Forest Lawn Cemetery on August 29, what would have been his 51st birthday. Read more on Dr. Murray

Shaquille O’Neal Loses to Ben Roethlisberger in “Shaq Vs.” Premiere

Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille O’Neal lost to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the premiere episode for ABC’s “Shaq Vs.”.

O’Neal challenged Roethlisberger to a football scrimmage, but the NBA All-Star lost 21-14 to the Super Bowl champion QB. O’Neal had several handicaps to make the game more even, such as O’Neal starting from the 20 yard line, while Roethlisberger must attempt to score from the 40.

Throughout the match, the two engage in healthy trash talk, much of which was sparked by O’Neal. The game even featured a blonde sideline reporter and two announcers in a booth.

The new “Shaq Vs.” show will feature O’Neal challenging different athletes in their respective sports, such as Oscar de la Hoya (boxing), Albert Pujols (baseball), Michael Phelps (swimming) and Serena Williams (tennis).

Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger’s romance has been heating up and now insiders are weighing in on the new couple.

“They get along really well and just kinda click,” a source says. “Bradley likes the speed of everything. He likes that Reneé is low-key.”

Although they have been traveling together, the insider says they aren’t yet ready to take the romance public. “They’re not ready for red carpets. They don’t want to be public just yet,” adds the source.

It seems Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston has the same taste in men. According to reports, Diaz is dating another one of Aniston’s exes – Sex and the City actor Jason Lewis.

Diaz has previously dated British model Paul Sculfor, who briefly dated Aniston last year. Aniston recently split from John Mayer, who previously dated Diaz. Sources say Diaz is now getting serious with Lewis.

“They’ve always got along, but now realize just how much they have in common. Jason is exactly Cameron’s type. She’s attracted to athletic types and they’re both passionate about the environment,” a source says.

President Barack Obama to Join LeBron James and Kelly Clarkson in Back-to-School Television Special

President Barack Obama will be appearing alongside NBA superstar LeBron James and singing sensation and former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson in a back-to-school television special set to air next month.

In the 30-minute documentary scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET on Sept. 8 Obama stresses the importance of education as a means to living out an individual’s dream. The president notes, “So as this new school year begins, I urge you to set goals for your own education: to study hard and get involved in your school, to try new things and find something you’re passionate about.” He continues, “And that’s how our nation will get ahead — by ensuring that every American gets a world-class education, from preschool to college to a career.’

The program will air on BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike TV and VH1, all Viacom networks, as part of an education initiative set forth by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Viacom Inc.

Researchers Surmise Strep Throat Killed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has perplexed scholars for years as debate over what felled the famed composer ranging from poisoning to eating bad pork but now researchers appear convinced it was actually “strep throat” that ended the 35-year-old’s life.

According to a team of researchers at the University of Amsterdam, Mozart suffered a fatal swelling of the kidneys which was brought on by a bacterial infection. Mozart died in Vienna in 1791 and no autopsy was ever performed.

In researching Mozart’s death the scholars found that the symptoms the composer suffered from were consistent with what would have been brought on by untreated “strep throat.”
